I Wanna Be a Pirate

(Johnston 2008)

I don’t steal and I don’t cuss, and when I drink you know I don’t drink much,

Yeah, I’m the boy next door you really wish your daughter would date

Well I earn my keep and I pay my dues, I won’t get mad even when I loose

And brother, I’ve lost an awful lot here of late

CHORUS
Oh there must be something I don’t understand

Or maybe I’m to nice of a niave man

Yeah, why’s everybody always walking on me

I’m not as blood thirsty as I wanna be

I wanna be a pirate

Yeah I may bark, but I won’t bite, I’ll turn my cheek instead of starting a fight

Yes, I’m a genuine peace lovin’ anti-confrontational guy

I say “sir” and I say “Maam”,  I’m not fake, you know I am what I am

No, I couldn’t be someone I wasn’t even if I tried.

CHORUS

Oh there must be something I don’t understand

Or maybe I’m to cool of a mellow man

Yeah, why’s everybody always gotta be mean

I’m not as blood thirsty as I wanna be

I wanna be a pirate

Well I stay calm and well behaved, I’m treading water not making waves

Yeah the sign that says “sucker”  has my name hanging on the marquee

I do my best to keep to myself, but I’m taking heat from everyone else

Yes, they’re trying really hard to bring out the pirate in me.

CHORUS

Oh there must be something I don’t understand

Or maybe I’m too shy of a quiet man

Yeah, why’s everybody always dissin’ on me

I’m not as blood thirsty as I wanna be

I wanna be a pirate
