Vulture in the Sky
(Kevin Johnston 2002)
I was walking ‘cross the landscape of a barren no man’s land.
No water just the wind stirring up that shifting sand.
Oh there’s got to be a way to cool my sunbaked brain
From this sizzling scorching sun of this Godforsaken place.
CHORUS
But there’s no one around me ‘cept that vulture in the sky
Circling overhead, he’s just waiting for his time
But he don’t know me very well, Yes, I’ve played his game before
Never liked it very much, but I guess I gotta play once more
He’s waiting in the wings - gonna kick me when I’m down
In every situation, there’s always that one around.
Who will rob you blind right before your very eyes
And be forty mile away, before you realize
CHORUS
That there’s no one around you ‘cept that vulture in the sky
Circling overheard, he’s just waiting for his time
But he don’t know you very well, yes, you’ve played his game before
Never liked it very much, But I guess you gotta play once more
His intentions are so obvious, his attack is so well planned
And I’m running like Ali Baba, the Mojave’s most wanted man.
But I know every move that the silly vulture makes
And I stay a day ahead of every step that he takes.
CHORUS
That there’s no one around you ‘cept that vulture in the sky
Circling overheard, he’s just waiting for his time
But he don’t know me very well, yes, I’ev played his game before
Never liked it very much, But I guess I gotta even that score.
